SC Whitmore School Announces Largest Enrollment in School History

Columbia, SC – This year SC Whitmore School, a tuition-free public virtual charter school, saw its largest enrollment since its founding in 2011. To date 425 students have enrolled in SCWS, surpassing 400 students for the first time ever. This is also the earliest the school has reached enrollment capacity in its history.
This past Friday, the school’s annual “Pizza at the Park” event brought together students and teachers from across the state who typically only interact online. The event showcased the strong community spirit SCWS fosters among its hundreds of students.
Currently, there are over 150 students on the SCWS waiting list. In order to accommodate overwhelming interest, Principal John Loveday says SCWS is actively recruiting new teachers and faculty.
“I am so proud of the growth and success SCWS has seen over the last five years,” said Principal Loveday. “To be at capacity so early in the school year is a testament to the success and popularity of virtual learning in the public school system as well as our teachers and staff. We look forward to continuing our growth and providing more opportunities to students across our state who prefer a flexible, non-traditional learning environment.”
In addition to exceeding enrollment goals, last month the South Carolina Department of Education announced that SC Whitmore School had the greatest increase in mean SAT composite score, 231 points, of any public school in South Carolina.
SCWS is a tuition-free virtual public charter school offering academic opportunities to students across South Carolina. Students are granted a unique level of academic flexibility and independence.
