SC Whitmore School awards 123 diplomas to 2022 graduates

Columbia, SC – SC Whitmore School (SCWS), an online public high school based in Columbia, is excited to announce the graduation of 123 high school students during the 2021 – 2022 school year. This includes 23 winter graduates, 100 spring graduates. Executive Director Kim Dunbar said, “We are so excited for our 2022 graduates. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication and can’t wait to see everything they will accomplish during their next steps in life. We are thankful they chose SC Whitmore School to support them in their academic journey.”
SC Whitmore School continues to show the state of South Carolina and beyond the positive impact online learning is having in the lives of hundreds and thousands of young people.
Families and friends were able to celebrate the Class of 2022 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on June 4th, 2022. They listened to presentations from the faculty and staff and heard commencement messages from the Valedictorian, Olivia Medeiros, and Salutatorian, Kiersten Boulden. The graduates officially become alumni of SCWS after Shennice Cleckley, SCWS Board Chair conferred the graduates.
During the spring graduation, SCWS had a total of 123 students graduate. This included more than $720,000 in scholarships from the graduates.
SCWS was excited to award five students with a $1,000 merit-based scholarship. These five students are classified as Jessica Munyon Memorial Scholars. The students must earn a minimum GPA of 4.0 in SCWS courses and be enrolled in SCWS for at least one year, in addition to submitting an essay and receiving a recommendation from a teacher.
This year there were also 26 students who graduated high school either one or two years early, compared to the traditional four years of high school.
The 2022 SCWS Valedictorian, Olivia Medeiros is an honors graduate, a member of the National Beta Club, the National Honors Society, the Students Government, and also a Jessica Munyon Memorial Scholarship recipient. Olivia graduated from SCWS with a 5.056 GPA and also earned the Social Studies Academic Excellence Award. After graduation, Olivia is planning to attend Erskine College.
The 2022 SCWS Salutatorian is Kiersten Boulden. Kiersten is an honors student, who graduated high school early while also in the National Beta Club, National Honors Society, and a Jessica Munyon Memorial Scholarship recipient. She graduated from SCWS with a 5.047 GPA and also earned the Math and English Academic Excellence Award. After graduation, Kiersten is planning to attend the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
SCWS Principal, Ebone Adams, has seen the class of 2022 succeed as students and excel in their education.
“We are extremely proud of the Class of 2022,” said Adams. “It was amazing to see so many graduates receive recognition for their achievements. Everything we do as educators leads to the big graduation day. I’m confident that each and every graduate from this class will excel in their life beyond high school.”
