SC Whitmore School Awards 64 Diplomas in Graduation Ceremony Saturday
June 3, 2017

Columbia, SC – South Carolina Whitmore School, a virtual charter public high school, held their commencement exercises Saturday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Students and their families from all over the state gathered to celebrate their achievements and accept their diplomas.
The commencement speaker was Molly Spearman, State Superintendent of Education. Thirty five students received in-state or out-of-state scholarships totaling $650,000. Valedictorian Hanna Hall and Salutatorian Shelly Sasser were honored in the ceremony for their exceptional achievements as well.

Principal John Loveday said he was proud of each and every graduate who received their diploma on Saturday.
“Every student who graduated today deserves a great deal of credit for the determination and hard work they demonstrated throughout their time at SCWS. We had twenty four students finish their coursework early this year and others who pursued their passions thanks to the flexibility our school allows. We are so proud of our students and faculty for another successful school year at SCWS.”
SCWS is a tuition-free, virtual charter public high school that was founded in 2011 and aims to engage students in mastery learning. The school’s objective for students is to become independent learners in a challenging way while giving them the essential tools for success that they may need. This unique environment of learning is an alternate form of education for students who may be on an accelerated track or need a flexible academic calendar.
