SC Whitmore School Raises Over $4,000 for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

SCWS faculty at relay for life

Columbia, SC – Students, faculty and staff at SC Whitmore School raised approximately $4,134.00 for the American Cancer Society’s 2017 Chapin/Irmo Relay for Life. The event took place on May 5, 2017 at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin, South Carolina.

The SCWS silver team came in 4th place out of 32 teams, and was the top school and rookie team in fundraising. The team of 12 was supported by 14 business sponsors and numerous individual donors. Many businesses also donated gift baskets and gift certificates. The team’s top sponsor was Chick-fil-A of Ballentine, who sent out their cow mascot to support the relay.

The first official lap of the race was led by SCWS Enrollment Coordinator and cancer survivor, Pam Chick.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries.

Founded in 2011, SCWS is a free virtual public charter school offering academic opportunities to students who don’t fit the traditional brick and mortar school.
