Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Whitmore School (SCWS), a public charter school in the South Carolina Public Charter School District, is proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement by one of its trailblazing students. Luciana Hunter, a 10th-grade student and current President of the SCWS FBLA Chapter, earned 2nd place in the Introduction to Public Speaking event at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference.
Luciana’s impressive performance not only earned her a top spot among 9th and 10th-grade competitors across the state but also secured her a berth at the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. Her hard work, dedication, and leadership have truly set a new standard for excellence at SCWS.
“The 2024-2025 school year was a trailblazing year for the Business Management & Administration and Computer Science programs at SC Whitmore School,” said Courtney Williamson-Holley, SCWS Future Business Leaders of America Advisor and Career and Technical Education Instructor. “The opportunity for students to become a member of a Career & Technical Student Organization, such as the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), that would allow them to further develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired through participation in the program has birthed many trailblazers.”
Holley said, “Ms. Luciana Hunter blazed her way by not only becoming the first SCWS student to participate in a business competition, but also by claiming a berth to the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, by placing second overall in the Introduction to Public Speaking event at the FBLA State Leadership Conference. As the presiding President of SCWS’s first FBLA Chapter, Luciana has set the precedent for current and future students.”
SC Whitmore School Principal Eboné Adams is excited for Luciana’s success. “
“It has been an absolute honor to watch Luciana, our FBLA President, lead with passion, innovation, and integrity,” said Adams. “She has set an incredible precedent for what it means to be not only a student leader, but a visionary who inspires others to dream big and work hard. We are incredibly proud and grateful for the mark she has made on our school community." |
SC Whitmore School Executive Director Kim Dunbar is very proud of Luciana, “I’m so thankful that Luciana’s hardwork and dedication was seen not only by her SCWS family but by the state chapter of the FBLA. We were so proud to have her represent SCWS at the national conference. We are excited to see where Luciana will lead the FBLA chapter.”
This milestone marks a proud moment for SCWS and its growing Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Luciana's success represents the school’s commitment to providing real-world opportunities for students to thrive beyond the virtual classroom.
